I was driving back from the gym the other night when I turned on my XM radio for the ride home. I decided to go station exploring from the normal stations I listen to and found myself listening to XM channel 10, the classic country music station. A song entitled "There Ain't No Good Chain Gang" by Johnny Cash was playing. Listening to the song took me back to my childhood. My mam'ma and papaw used to watch me during the day on occasion. I remember my pappaw when he would take a nap, he would always listen to Johnny Cash on this old console record player that seemed to be the size of a football field at the time. I remember this nap time because my brother and I always had to be very quiet. This would often occur after we had spaghetti for lunch. I remember my mam'aw always having Equal on the table for our tea which in retrospect probably began my love affair with artificial sweeteners I have to this day. Some years later, I remember being in my car driving my mam'aw somewhere and I decided to show her my XM radio. I explained to her that the signal was beamed from space off of satellites instead of having to rely on being in range of a radio tower and how XM radio had a lot of different types of music. I turned on channel 4 for her, which is the "40s on 4" channel. All the channel does is play music from the 1940s; they will even play commercials and "war updates" from the era. I remember her getting a real kick out of the music, then telling me to turn it down because I listened to music too loudly.
I do miss family members who have passed away, and I look back fondly at my childhood. I have great parents, and I want them to know I truly value them, the home, and the family they provided for my brother and me.

Dude, you are taking me back in time with this post. I was thinking the other day of Mamaws breadsticks with spaghetti sauce, and the glass RC bottle. MMM.. that was some good eating...and you were right, we did have to be really quiet during naptime.
